The Tryst - a short story

The two blond lovers stood at the end of the alley, bathed in the pink glow of the early morning light. They were enjoying their quiet moment together before the day became uncertain and the world became crazy.

Suddenly they were interrupted by a young brunette who appeared quickly and silently taking the lovers by surprise! They were afraid, the brunette was much larger than them and they’d had run-ins with her type before. In an effort to protect his girl, he ran towards the street, she ran in the opposite direction, down the alley in a panic – not knowing what to do or where her partner had gone. Would she ever see him again? They had only known each other for a short while. Her thoughts were interrupted when a grey haired punk jumped down from the fence, intent on chasing her down the alley. He seized the opportunity with pride, his eyes narrowing on his prey, but spun around to see that he too was interrupted by the young brunette and made a swift exit over the fence on the other side of the alley. Foiled again by his mortal enemy!

Meanwhile, the brunette, really too young to realize her full potential, was only curious. She was completely unaware of all the events that had just taken place before her. The others had prejudged her and she didn’t understand why they all ran from her. Fortunately she took none of it to heart and carried on her morning stroll, happily travelling along, enjoying the present moment, glad to be out in the world that was becoming alive with activity on this bright and sunny morning.

I took a couple of days off from work last week for vacation and boy were they nice! Other than the usual holidays, I haven't had a break from work. Oh yes, plus it was my birthday.

Jp took me to the yarn store for a shopping spree and we went out for breakfast and dinner that day as well. He gave me flowers and 4 knitting books too. Oh and the Coraline DVD which I have been dying to get. We went out and played mini golf and air hockey too. I received lots of phone calls of well wishes and even received several cards in the mail! I was so pleased that so many people are so thoughtful - so very nice. And wonderful and thoughtful gifts as well. I'll post photos later once I catch up on some more work.

And if you live in Canada, I'm sure you haven't escaped the 'weather conversation'. What's going on out there - flooding in Ontario, extreme heat in BC, thunderstorms in Alberta? It's just crazy.

Yesterday it was a warm and muggy 28 degrees. Humidity was 88%. When I had to leave the house to go outside, the mugginess would hit me. You know what it was like? Walking into a tropical fish store, or the Amazon Gallery at the Vancouver Aquarium! Blah. I don't like that kind of heat!

Eco Update

Well folks, it's time for a Friday Eco update; she's now 4.5 months old and weighs 38 pounds.

Here are some photos:
She likes to stick her face in the water when she drinks.
Maybe it tastes better on the bottom?
(Can you see the water flying out of the bucket?) And she likes to dig in her water, I have no idea why
- there wasn't anything in the water. And remember those pictures I posted before of her in her bed?
Well look at her now, she barely fits in it!

Time for me to go out and enjoy the warm weather - what are you doing this weekend?

It's Teething time

On Tuesday I was surprised to see that Eco had lost her two upper front teeth. We cracked jokes about her lisp, and what her bark would sound like.

Yesterday, I saw that she had lost a puppy tooth on the bottom.
Today, two new teeth are coming in on the top!

We've got about 5 more weeks of this - that's just crazy fast isn't it?
But I tell you, I'm looking forward to thoses nice round adult teeth (and so are my arms and hands!)

I'll post pictures on the weekend.

Work, work, work, craft, craft, play

I did things backwards this weekend. Saturday I trimmed and shaped all the shrubs in my front yard, trimmed, mowed, raked, swept and bagged all the plant material. By the time I had mowed the back yard in 28 degrees I was panting and overheated. Then I weeded a bunch of badly neglected sections of my back garden. What a day!

I was looking forward to Sunday when I could sit outside and enjoy the day, except it clouded over and actually felt a bit cold. Funny how 22 degrees can feel cold. So I puttered around doing this and that. By the time it came for me to grill the hamburgers I had to do it in the rain.

I should've relaxed in the sun on Saturday and worked in the cloud on Sunday! Silly me, I always seem to do things backwards.

......

I finally managed to get back to some crafting and worked on my crocheted cardigan. However, when I took a good look at the front panel I felt the edge was a little too uneven and frogged back 8 inches. At least with crochet it's really easy to pick up and start and start again after ripping back.

Oh and also managed to get a little embroidery project done. It's on a pillow case for Jp. Sorry the photo's so lousy, the background is white but it's a cloudy day and I used a crappy camera because I was impatient:

Eco, the kid and I had a great game of hide-n-seek last night although that little dog is so fast and very good at it. I think she can smell the treat bag I had on me and perhaps we'll have to play in the dark next time to make it harder. It's a very fun game though.

Hi. My name is Eco. I'm 17 weeks old. That's 4.25 months!
I weigh 33.2 pounds and visited the vet yesterday who
said I am growing very well.
I am getting two new teeth.

I like to put my whole head in my water bucket in case someone left me something on the bottom.
See the water dripping from my face?
(Ed: horrible photo, I know. I'm having a tough
time capturing good photos of this dog. Maybe it's
the photographer and not the subject!)

These are only some of my toys. Pretty gnarly, huh?
(there's an earless puppy, a rubber stick, a treat ball,
tug toys, and kong toys with yummy cheese
inside of them. I like cheese.

Wall graphics for you/Weekend Update

Since several of my readers have moved into new homes, I thought I'd share this site that has some very nice wall graphics - a nice way to freshen up your rooms: Loxii wall graphics.

The weekend was interesting for us. On Saturday Jp sneezed three times and then had a nose bleed that wouldn't stop. After an hour, we went to the hospital to have it checked out. We were very lucky that despite the full moon and it being a Saturday night, it was reasonably quiet in Emergency. We also had a fun RN that kept us entertained. All was well, his nose finally stopped and nothing further was needed.

Sunday was our two year anniversary but we decided to postpone our plans and lay low just in case his nose decided to act up again. It was a lazy, hot summer's day anyway. I played in the kiddie pool with Eco and we watched old episodes of Mad Men. Aren't we just a scream?

The Medicine Bowl & Canada Day

I haven't had a cold or been sick for almost two years but the kid was sick when he came over last Thursday and the doctor said that he's seen a lot of sick kids during the last week of school, so I guess I got to be part of that elite group and picked myself up a cold.

Yup - nice hot sunny weather and I'm in bed with a cold. But it wasn't just a normal cold, I also had a fever for a bit and SEVERE back pain.

So how does one deal with it? With this - the MEDICINE BOWL!
Jp kindly went to the store for me and picked up practically one of everything to ensure my speedy recovery. And I tell you, I do not attempt to get through the day without the Daytime Cold Formula - it's a must!

I'm getting better now and I am so grateful because I was only in bed for 2 days. Yesterday I was so happy that I made it the whole day without needing a nap and I feel so much better today. It must be so hard for people that are sick for longer periods of time. Poor them! A speedy recovery to you all wherever you are!

Hey! Did you have a nice Canada Day?

Because the kid and I were both still recovering we hung around and played in the kiddie pool with the dog and even had the neighbour's dog over for a play date. I cooked a beer can chicken on the grill which turned out really good (nice and juicy) - thanks to the one-on-one coaching session from my brother. He should really open a cooking hotline! We also had pita bread, tzatziki, greek salad and olives. What? I don't know how that happened, but our Canada Day dinner was GREEK! Oh us crazy canucks, eh?!
