Saturday morning I spend in the garden. Well, first I spent an hour on the phone with my brother, talking about goals and finding one's passion - it was a very good conversation. Then I filled the wheelbarrow full of garden ornaments and bird houses to put away for the winter. Then I repotted several house plants and some garden plants (like geraniums and a mini rose) to see if I can keep them in the house over the winter too. I am quite amazed that we haven't had any frost yet but more surprised that it's the beginning of October and 97% of the leaves are still on my big maple tree. I am sure that they usually fall by late September - or at least change colour by now - do you recall?
When I was in Alberta visiting my mum and brother, I noticed that the majority of fall trees went from green to yellow and when I told JP about it he said "hmm, like an existential stop light"
After my work in the garden, I came in for lunch - just in time because it had started to rain. JP made me a very good sandwich - I think he's the Sandwich King. I picked up my knitting needles and watched the movie, Crash which is a very good movie, if you haven't seen it - you must. We were going to go out for dinner, but then JP decided we'd go on Sunday, so we picked up Chinese food and finished just in time to watch The Pursuit of Happyness" This is also a good movie, although near the end I had reached the saturation point for sadness (even though I know there is a very happy ending).
I am knitting another Hallowig, this time in gray but when I wound the ball I added a silver strand to it. I was hoping for more of a chain maille looking hat, but it looks more like 70's Disco glitter. Hmmm, well I will finish it anyway.
What did you do on Saturday?

I know what you mean about "The Pursuit of Happyness". It was a good movie, but I remember feeling a little depressed by the end, like it was too much sadness and not enough punctuations of something else.
I'm surprised that your maple tree is so late in turning. We don't have any maples in this part of BC (I don't know why, because they will grow here....maybe I should plant some), so all the trees go from green to yellow, then a big wind comes and they're suddenly bare. I've heard that they need a good frost to make them hurry up and change colour.
Saturday was kind of fun here. It snowed! It didn't stick for long, but I guess summer IS officially over.
That's what I thought- we need a frost first! I just went and checked - nope -the tree is still green and loaded with leaves and seed pods! that means that when it does finally drop, it'll be too wet to mow all those leaves! And I'll be stuck with them until spring!
I can't believe you got snow. Sorry to hear that. I guess your tire gardens are covered with cold frames now?
I lived almost my whole life in Victoria and Vancouver and I miss that coast weather, but this cold winter stuff is fun, too. I'm not sure if I should say it out loud, but I'm looking forward to winter. Last night it froze so hard that it looks like snow this morning. One of my first thoughts was of the tire garden/cold frames. Should go have a peek and see how they fared.
