Door in the Floor

Did you hear about this family who opened a metal door in their yard? Read about it here.

For years I have had dreams that there was a door in the floor of my house, and there was a hidden basement I didn't know I had. I'd be so happy to finally have some extra space, plus angry that so many years had gone by that I didn't know about it. Sadly, it's a solid concrete floor and nothing is below my house. But still I wish...

How frustrating!

Oh I hate when this happens! I look at some yarn and think I have enough for a project and then I run out! See this?

These are wrist warmers. The one on the right is completed. The one of the left needs to be 7 1/2" wide  but it's only 4" wide. On the far left is how much yarn I have remaining. There is no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks  that I have enough yarn to complete this project. There is no way, in it's current configuration, that I can suddenly change yarn on one mitt on one hand.

Nope.

It's just not going to work.

The only thing left for me to do is FROG IT! Oh, what does 'frogging' mean? In knitting/crochet it means to unravel your piece because as you pull the yarn you 'rip it, rip it'.... hence the name. Don't get mad at me, I didn't make that up. Any of it.

So here I go, pulling it all apart. I guess what's left will be turned into a baby hat.

Frustrating.

I hate wasting time like that.

Sedona Sunsets

The project that I had been rushing to make has arrived and now I can show it to you:

I made these socks for my mom and wanted to include them in her Christmas present box and wanted her to be able to wear them right away (so I didn't wrap them). I am pleased to say that her presents arrived yesterday and she loves the socks. I took a risk because orange isn't my mom's colour, but since there were bits of beige and purple and turquoise in them I hoped she would like them. Besides the colours are to commemorate her recent trip to Scottsdale, AZ and so perhaps every time she looks at her Sedona Sunset Socks she can think of that happy trip. These socks were specially made for her, and I knit them a bit looser so they would fit nicely around her legs and loose on the feet and be easy to put on and take off.

Check out this photo that I borrowed from this site:

See the oranges and purples and
turquoise in there? Similar colours, no?

It's nice when something you've made is well received. My mom frequently tells me how much she enjoys my homemade socks and so I am happy to make them for her. Jp on the other hand tells me he never wants me to knit for him so I won't.

Fortunate or Unfortunate? or both?

At the end of our meal in a  Chinese Restaurant our fortunes were placed on a little tray with the bill - but strangely, one package had no fortune - only a puffy air filled bag. Laughingly we  showed our server who grabbed a bag from the bowl to replace it, and then we got two-in-one!

As William Shatner would say "Weird or What?"

Oh and what did the fortunes say?
One said: Now is a good time to try something new
and the other: If you go fishing, your catch will be plentiful

Surprise Redecoration

A friend of mine recently moved houses and then left two days later for a trip with her daughter. The night she returned,  she was driving past her house at 1:30 in the morning on her way home and was talking to her boyfriend when she noticed the light was on in her bedroom and she began to panic because she hadn't left the light on before she left. No one had keys to the house (or so she thought). When she got home, she found her boyfriend had set up her whole bedroom - which included painting, buying and hanging the curtains, buying her a duvet cover, buying and hanging art work and setting up her TV. She had no idea this was being done. They had not talked about it at all. He chose everything, the colour scheme the furniture etc.

What do you think of this? Wouldn't you like to be part of the process? Or would you like to come home to fully decorated bedroom that someone else chose for you?

BTW, she's thrilled, so it worked out well. I just think it's a very risky undertaking.
