goodbye cable TV

For us, the content on TV has been getting worse and what we found watchable was less and less, but when we happened to catch an episode of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, well - I kid you not- we dropped all our extra cable channels the next morning. We now have "basic cable" and the Video On Demand service which allows us to watch and rent movies and see some TV shows whenever we want with limited commercials.

For those who aren't familiar, Honey Boo Boo became popular after being on the TV show, Toddlers & Tiaras, not only for Alana's (aka Honey Boo Boo Chil) charming personality and amazing confidence but also for her mom's now famous and very controversial Go Go Juice (a half-and-half mixture of Mountain Dew and Red Bull). As well there was controversy over whether this family from Georgia was being laughed at or laughed with, and whether they were in on it or being taken advantage of. However, a few moments of watching, I think you'll see why we decided it just wasn't worth paying for these types of shows any more.

Joel McHale of The Soup calls the mom "a talking thumb"...and now for "Realty Show Clip Time"*

...so what do you think of this show or about cable TV?

*Another The Soup reference. I will still be able to watch this show with the cable I have left.

I cut my cord at Christmas. I don't miss it much as the internet has endless content.

Well good for you! And yes I can see why - it gets more expensive each day, and the content just goes down in reverse proportion!

Honey Boo Boo was soooo annoying!

A fella I work with has recently gotten rid of his cable and had an antenna installed. Should be interesting to see how that goes as he now only gets 29 channels (about 16 are of interest to him).
