A funny thing happens...

when I get my hair cut in a new style. I feel so different. I feel like it's a new me and I've got a fresh start. I feel younger. I feel different. I want to go out and show it off.

Does a new hair cut do that to you? Am I weird?

I had about 3 or 4 inches cut off and couldn't be happier. Of course, I wonder why I didn't do this at the beginning of the summer!
I don't have a photo, but it's sort of Amelie - ish... except I'm not cute like she is. And I didn't plan on looking like her. But about an hour after my hair cut, I was having lunch when the image popped into my head.
Maybe more Amelie meets Keely Smith

I have always loved Amelie's hair! I totally wanted her cut after I first saw the movie...but alas, I have fine thin hair and I could never pull it off. You're lucky!

I don't think you're weird. I can see how it could be a freeing experience when you do it because you want to. I don't relate, tho. It's been 10 months since I "had to" get my locks lopped off and my goal is to grow it all back. I did definitely feel like a different person, that's true, but I wanted to hide (I don't adapt well to change). And I always feel a pang of sadness when I see someone cut off their lovely hair. I don't even like pruning plants. Check out my blog from Nov.8/06 ... http://joblom.blogspot.com/2006/11/ouch.html

Staci - my hair is fine and thin too, why do you think you couldn't do it? Although I must say I do love your current cut and am working towards that one next.
Endako Jo - I guess because my hair grows fast, I don't treasure it like some people. I always feel that it'll grow back and so I end up growing it long and then doing these dramatic cuts! I read your post, including Rapunzel and I can see that it would be upsetting for you. Have you gained much length since then?

I wasn't criticizing or anything. I admire that you are so daring. I really do.
In 10 months my hair has grown 7 1/2 inches so I'm thrilled about that. My whole life my hair was waist length. Then I turned 40 and it took off on a growth spurt (I blame it on hormones).

Oh Jo - I didn't feel that way. I know it is a very difficult issue for some - especially for those who's hair grows slowly. You're hair's growing at 3/4" per month - that's pretty fast - you must be happy about the growth spurt (not about the hormones!) And that you're getting your length back. I know that I must go with what's comfortable and I no longer feel good about longer hair (on me) - perhaps becuase it's not as thick as it was in my youth - plus I have to colour it these days, which I never had to do then!
We all must do what feels 'right' for us, right?
