Just out of curiousity my fellow crafty Canadians, have you been watching the show She's Crafty on HGTV (Canada)? What do you think of it?
Here's my opinion: although I am happy that Canada has finally caught on and given us one show, I am a bit disappointed with it. Have you seen all the crafty shows in the US? Why there's a whole DIY network that has lots of fabulous shows. I had the opportunity when I was in Texas last April to watch some of them and they were great. Whole shows devoted to knitting like Vicki Howell's, Knitty Gritty, and many other amazing craft shows. We have one 1/2 hour mediocre show. Very disappointing. When is Canadian broadcasting going to catch on?
I am pleased that She's Crafty is filmed in Vancouver, but I'm not liking the host all that much - still it's a start. I'm hoping that if the ratings are good, perhaps more shows will be created here.
You know, I am sorry to say but I have grown to dislike HGTV - it's only home renovation or decoration shows and 95% of the content is about Toronto. I have grown tired of seeing only Toronto on TV. Same with Canadian fashion magazines - too much Toronto content! There is more to Canada than Toronto. I think that it's time that Vancouver and Calgary, and other great cities are included. I've heard Americans similarly complain though saying the US is not just New York and Los Angeles, which is the basis for many TV shows, but not to the same extent as our Toronto domination.
If we can't produce our own shows, then let's at least bring the US shows to Canada, what do you think? I wonder how that can be done.

Write to the CRTC, and get as many people who think like you to do the same. Although the West hasn't had much influence on Toronto, with a lot of requests it will have more clout. compose a request and get people to add their "signature" e-mail or whatever to indicate they're on board. Good luck. It's time Western money starts to protest for the treatment it gets out there.
I agree- I find that show kinda hokey honestly. i watched it once and was like "Is this the best we can do?" ugh.
I emailed the DIY network a while ago about bringing those US shows to canada, they passed me along to HGTV canada who them passed me along to hgtv US, and they pingponged me back to the canadian one. so i'm guessing the answer is no. and that sucks.
and why can't us canucks make a cool show like knitty gritty? or craft corner death match( i sure miss that one!) or a cool craft show in general? and yes- too much toronto. and i want colin & justin to come to vancouver. ok i'll shut up.... :))
She's Crafty is a good start, but, I have to agree - a show where the host brings her sister on to glue cups to a nightlight isn't very exciting. I'd love the Craft Corner Death Match to come back as well. I haven't seen Knitty Gritty yet. Why is it such a hassle for that stuff to be shown up here anyway?
Well maybe it's time to petition them again, maybe we can point out the popularity of the crafts... and how much we spend on wool and other supplies (advertising dollars always count, right? )
I actually think it's a great show. I don't know if I can watch someone knit for 1/2 hour. I think Vicki Howell is in an upcoming episode. Agreed Craft Corner Death Match was actually entertaining, but I'm thinking it may have been a little pricey to make! When I watch TV I want to be entertained. It's refreshing to see a host genuinely having fun, learning, and who is not afraid to make a mistake and laugh at herself. TV is about entertainment and this show works for me!
