Shine Bright Like a Diamond

Around 2am last night (this morning) I suddenly awoke and my right hand was drawn to my engagement ring. My eyes still closed and in the dark I felt the ring which was strangely different. I knew instantly that the diamond was gone. I took my ring off and put it in a box and then laid awake for at least 30 minutes thinking about all the places I could have lost it and when I saw it last.

Although I am usually a home body, on Monday nights I go to dance and so I could have lost the diamond anywhere in that studio as my arms were swing around for two and a half hours.... and sparkly things on the floor is a pretty common occurrence.

Oh, and when I came home from dance last night, I had hand watered the front garden. Of course I did. Hand waving all over dirt and leaves and whatever else...

We still tried to look around the house this morning, but I've pretty much accepted the fact that it is gone. After sharing my story with some friend it seems somewhat common for many of them to have lost the whole ring, so just losing a diamond I guess isn't as bad? Still I won't be able to replace the stone anytime soon and a wedding ring without an engagement ring looks a little lonely doesn't it?

And I still think it's really weird how I snapped awake to realize it was gone. The whole thing has kinda put me in a downer mood all day.

Please, PLEASE don't give up looking. This same kind of "snap to" moment happened to me in a Goodwill store, of all places!? I'd been there for hours, trying on vintage-y sweaters and tons of other you-name-its when some sort of spidey sense overtook me. "YOUR DIAMOND'S MISSING," it screamed at me in my head. I immediately went silently bErSeRk (Unfortunately, you know exactly what I mean.) before pulling it together, so I could retrace absolutely ever step I'd taken in the store --which, by the way, was going to be closing in less than half an hour. (<--YIKES!)

But no luck. Then I immediately went silently bErSeRk a second time after asking the employees of the store if they'd help me look, or if I could at least use their flashlight and a broom, only to have them stare blankly at me as if I was from another planet.

I quickly drove home, got a flashlight, and drove back to Goodwill --all the while praying like a fiend to St. Anthony of Padua (<--The patron saint of lost stuff. Please know that I'm no holy roller, but, no kidding, this guy actually listens and without a doubt has a direct line to God.) I race-walked back into the GW place and retrace-y shone the light just once. Lo and behold, a GIANT sparkle winked up at me from the floor! I FOUND THE DIAMOND!!! It was nothing short of a miracle, I tell you. (<--Thanks again, St. Anthony!)

Because your "snap to" woke you as you slept in your own comfy, cozy, warm, safe, little bed (<--There's gotta be something to that. Don't you feel it? I do.), I'd be willing to bet your diamond has gone missing in your house--NOT anywhere else. So, please don't give up. It's not hopeless. Give it another shot. And while you're "retracing," surely a few words to Saint Anthony couldn't hurt.

Good luck, my friend. I think you're going to find the diamond.
