Thrifty Crafty Shopping

On Saturday I had a great time shopping with Cynthia and Carol; please check their sites for an account of the crafty shopping day. It was a lot of fun as we always find something creepy or weird to laugh at in the thrift stores - this time it was weird 70's fashion made from bedsheets, or a whole bunch of doll parts, or strange clown crafts.

The only bad thing? I broke my Craft Challenge 2010. I was not supposed to add anything to my stash this whole year and was only supposed to spend $20. Well then I saw the gorgeous Noro Kureyon yarn and it was all over - almost 5 times over the limit! Dang crafty friends enabling me!

BUSTED !!!! I can just hear the game show buzzers telling me to leave the stage. I only made it 5 months. Well just like any challenge, I shall get back on the horse and start over. $20 limit from now until December 31st.

I plan on making the Entrelac Scarf with the Noro Yarn -but I've never tried Entrelac before, so first I'm working up a swatch with some old acrylic before I dive into the good stuff. But I really want to dive in with the good stuff!

oh my aching back

Decluttering was the word for the weekend. The loooonnnnggg weekend. I spend a day and a half emptying my workroom/office and a day and a half sorting and replacing things. I filled 2 garbage bags, 3 recycling bags and about 6 bags for the thrift store. Admittedly, it's not done - I have lots of papers to sort through still, but since the forecast for the next few days has lots of rain it it, I'll continue to work on it this week - and, as you all know, sorting paperwork is a regular chore that never ends. Right?

I feel good about the space I managed to reclaim in the room that I spend more time in than anywhere else. And maybe now that I have some space, I can get back to making/creating things again. One can dream, can't they?

And now I leave you with a photo of Eco from when she had hurt her foot and we put a sock on it to keep it clean and keep some cream on it. The sock has little cats all over it (I think that's funny).

Here's another side of things that is really interesting - what do you think of that?

Electronic Snowball

On the weekend, our internet stopped working. After checking with the supplier, we found it out was our router, so a quick call to our computer tech and we've got a spanky new high-speed ultra powerful router. Yay. But then....

I'm working on my computer, which is inches away from where the router must sit and my wireless mouse isn't working so well. So I check with Jp and sure enough the router interferes with the wireless mouse. So off to the store he goes to get me a spanky new wired trackball mouse. Yay, But then...

I'm on the cordless phone and the reception isn't working so well. So I check with Jp and sure enough the router interferes with the phones. So off to the store he goes to buy some spanky new cordless phones that won't be affected by any router. Yay. But then...

I'm on the my cell phone and the reception isn't working so well. So I check with Jp and sure enough the router interferes with the bluetooth. Looks like I must just have to deal with this one. Boo.

Results:One gianormous electronic snowball.

That was one expensive router -wouldn't you say?

I said I wasn't going to...but I did

Yah, yah, I'm a liar.

I said I wasn't going to do anything in the garden. I said I was just going to do containers up high out of Eco's way, but I did and I didn't.

Yesterday I picked up a variety of annuals and a bunch of veggies and planted the veggies in the ground like I said I wasn't going to - Why? Well I bough some seedling corn plants and I just didn't think they'd do so well in  a pot. I also bought seedling celery - I've never tried that before - never even THOUGHT of growing celery - so I'll give that a whirl.

And then I made my second mistake - to allow a young, water-loving Labrador in the yard with newly planted gardens while I watered. Of course the dog went crazy chasing the water and jumped right on top of those new corn seedlings! Crazy thing! What was I thinking!?

Eco-Update

Since my last post, I went to Seattle for 4 days for a work conference. We had to leave Eco at a kennel which I had hoped would be a great time for her, but when I picked her up, she looked sick - she was sick. I took her to the vet later that day and confirmed she had a UTI (it was really nasty) plus a different foot was now sore (from playing on the river rock in their outdoor pens). The UTI was not necessarily the fault of the kennel as apparently it's not uncommon for stress to bring them on (just like us).

She's been on anti-biotics ever since and she's looking and acting a lot better. She was feeling so well in fact that she's been tearing through the yard - and along the way the damaged nail from several weeks ago came off. Now the soft part is exposed (and bleeding) so her foot is being bandaged for a few days plus she has to wear a cone on her head. I just want my healthy dog back. Poor thing.

Sunday was our 1 year anniversary with Eco- the day we brought our 8 week puppy home, our little 9 pound puppy that slept on the armrest on the drive home. Now she's 57 pounds and only one leg would fit on that same armrest. My how time flies! I miss the cute little puppy-ness, but I don't miss those dang puppy teeth!
