Did you know...... that today is Stick Invention Day? In 2002, a person received U.S. patent 6,360,693 . What was his amazing invention? An animal toy that includes an apparatus with a "main section with at least one protrusion ... that resembles a branch in appearance." In other words, a stick. ;-)
This is most curious to me. Doesn't it cost a lot of money to obtain a patent? What would be the motivation to do so? So many questions, so many sticks....

I did once apply and got a U.S. patent and it was expensive. But why anybody would want to patent a stick ( it's sort of similar to the pet rock craze we had). That's a puzzlement.!
Because there are a bunch of folks who like to collect a steady
residual income.
So they make it their business to own something and then licence it
to others for pennies. Done enough times and it makes for a tidy
passive income.
You'd be surprised at the common everyday items that people have
tried to or have patents on.
Many basic computer functions have a patent and someone is trying to
collect a few pennies each time it is used.
