Do you ever look at something with a pattern and see a flaw, and then that's all you ever see when you look at it? Well that's what happened with our new bathroom rug. One day I looked down and realized one of the black rectangles was solid and didn't have a break in it:

I do not see the one rectangle as a fault. It is merely the only one that is really all the way up front. Nothing is crossing its lines. The rest is all behind it.

If you were REALLy observant you'd have seen that when you bought it. But then maybe you didn't buy it.
One way to look at it is as a fault. I just saw it as symbolism. They are all connected but the one. It participates but doesn't have the same connection to the others. It is above. On top. Like its owner. (smile)

I can see it alright, but it is a nice rug! Maybe you should consider leaving it?
Thank you for your nice comments - for those that can't see it - all the rectangles n the middle are 'linked' - one corner over the next, and one corner under EXCEPT the one on the bottom right - that black 'link' is on top of the grey one. Once my eye saw it, I see the mistake, and try not to think of it.

Your post made me think of Möbius strips.
This is a great example of "wabi sabi". I have a Japanese friend who told me about this ancient Japanese philosophy wherein imperfection is honored as "flawed beauty", lending interest and fascination to the subject. The acceptance of the flaw is the first step towards Enlightenment. In other words, your rug is perfect as it is!
