So I was at the dog park the other day and a guy was telling us about his alcoholic dog - that would empty any glass left unattended if there was booze in it. A glass of plain coke would sit untouched, but if it had whiskey or rum in it, it was gone.
I found this rather interesting because in many cases booze doesn't taste good at all. Why would a dog like it? And then I was reading a book and heard about another dog that loved beer. And the more I pay attention the more alcoholic dogs are hear about. This seems very intriguing to me. It just seems to be the farthest away from anything they'd like. Do you know any drunk dogs?

One of my dogs, Beamer, loves whisky and beer. He'll drink it straight from a shot glass. I don't think it's good for him, but people come over sometimes and love to see it.
When I was a boy our dog would sometimes come and lap up beer from my Father's glass if he got up and left it unattended. I just assumed it was part of being an omnivore.
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting!
Loach - was that in Ireland? maybe it's in Irish dog DNA? no?
Kat, interesting story too. I'm still puzzled as to why they like it....
mlc, no it was in the US and I believe that most dogs like beer. I had a cat who would sometimes lap a small bit of beer up, but my current felines do not like it.
I had a dog who loved Kahlua and milk. So if I was having a drink, I'd have to keep an eye on my glass or her tongue would be in there lapping it up.
Wow, these are strange stories. Well, like they say, "Dogs (and cats) are people, too"!
I'm glad you think Suzi-Q is cute! I'll keep your offer of chocolate lab photos in the file of things to remember, thanks!
Thank you all for sharing your stories, this is most interesting!
